This scholarship is to be awarded to a student/athlete graduate of Stillwater High School who will attend a University or Junior College in the State of Oklahoma. Any student/athlete who meets the qualifications may apply. The deadline for receipt of the application in the Guidance Office is approximately April 1 each year.

Selection shall be based on the following criteria in order of importance
1. Need.
2. Lack of sufficient funding.
3. Leadership.
4. 2.5 GPA or greater.
5. Have participated in athletics while attending Stillwater High School.
6. Submit a written essay and completed application form.

Preliminary screening shall be:
1. Made of Principals or Administrator at Stillwater High School.
2. Made of three members of the SPAM Committee.
3. Will reduce the applicants to three finalists.

The final selection shall be made:
By the Board of Directors of SPAM after interviewing the final applicants.

The funds shall be distributed as follows:
A $1250 check per semester for four (4) years will be made out to the Bursar’s Office of the college the student is attending. The recipient is responsible for submitting his/her fall and spring bursar bills to the Stillwater Pioneer Athlete Memorial treasurer thus confirming the status of a full-time student.

A second scholarship may be awarded if we have more than one good applicant and have enough money in our budget.

Miscellaneous:
1. Scholarship recipients whose degree plan requires an additional year may be
eligible for an additional year of funding ($2500 per academic year) per SPAM board approval.

2. Scholarship recipients are allowed six years from high school graduation to use the allotted
$10,000 scholarship ($1250 per semester), excluding military service.

3. As per our By-Laws: Applicants for any scholarship awarded by the corporation must not be an immediate family member of an employee of the corporation, of a current member of the corporation’s Board of Directors, or of an individual who has been a member of the corporation’s Board of Directors within the previous two years.

4. Annually the board has the option to award a gift (small amount of cash or gift certificate) to a SPAM Difference Maker Teacher. The recipient could be the favorite teacher of our scholarship winner and he or she could award the gift to the teacher at our ceremony.

Applications are available at the high school in March. Three applicants will be chosen for an interview with the spam committee at our April meeting.  The scholarship is awarded in May.
